Eric Schaeffer

Eric Schaeffer co-founded Signature Theatre in Arlington, VA, in 1989 and was its artistic director for three decades. The theatre received the 2009 Regional Theatre Tony Award and became home to the American Musical Voices Project (AMVP) – the largest musical commission program in America. He directed over 60 productions for Signature.

Mr. Schaeffer has directed Gigi, Follies, Million Dollar Quartet, Glory Days and Putting It Together on Broadway. He has also directed in the West End in London with Million Dollar Quartet and The Witches of Eastwick. At the Kennedy Center, he served as Artistic Director of the Sondheim Celebration, where he also directed Sunday in the Park With George and Passion, along with Mame, Follies and First You Dream. He has received six Helen Hayes Awards for outstanding direction, eight Helen Hayes Awards for outstanding musical, 31 Helen Hayes Award nominations for outstanding director and the Washington Arts Founder Award.
